The esophageal motility characteristics and levels of brain-gut peptide in patients with refractory globus

Abstract:ObjectiveTo compare the esophageal motility and the levels of brain-gut peptide between refractory globus patients and non-refractory globus patients.MethodsAll subjects underwent high-resolution manometry (HRM) and were detected the levels of brain-gut peptide,which were compared the differences between refractory globus patients and non-refractory globus patients.ResultsRefractory globus patients had higher upper esophageal sphincter (UES) resting press [(94.97±42.08)mmHg] compared with non-refractory globus patients [(73.91±23.47)mmHg,t=2.359,P<0.05].There were no statistical differences in UES residual pressure[(12.44±8.31)mmHg,(12.66±8.12)mmHg],UES length[(22.72±10.13)mm,(19.71±7.85)mm],CFV[(5.47±1.39)cm/s,(5.24±1.40)cm/s],DL[(6.59±1.29)s,(6.78±1.10)s],LES[(22.63±10.17)mmHg,(19.56±7.63)mmHg] between refractory globus patients and non-refractory globus patients (t=0.528,0.471,0.725,0.736,0.486;P>0.05).The level of NPY was lower in refractory globus patients [(626.26±16.60)ng/L] than that in non-refractory globus patients [(641.35±17.45)ng/L (t=2.528,P<0.05)],but the level of SP was higher in refractory globus patients [(2386.96±372.68)ng/L] than that in non-refractory globus patients [(1607.77±345.91)ng/L],the difference was statistically different (t=3.728,P<0.05).And no statistical difference was found in calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) between refractory globus patients and non-refractory globus patients (t=0.752,P>0.05).ConclusionCompared with nonrefractory globus patients,refractory globus patients have higher UES resting pressure,higher level of SP and lower level of NPY.
