Abstract:In global war, there have been over 25% diagnosed cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI), most of which are caused by explosive blast. Although explosive blast TBI (bTBI) shares many clinical features with closed head TBI and penetrating TBI, it has special features, such as early cerebral-edema, prolonged cerebral vasospasm and diffuse axonal injury, which are different from other brain injuries. This manuscript summarizes the physics of explosive blast generation, the interation between blast wave and the body and the injured mechanism of regional brain tissue and cells after explosive blast exposure.
